I have been in love with Music, especially the Blues just about my entire life.
Since 1972 I have been living in the Netherlands, teaching and playing
throughout Europe working and recording with such bands as The Road Dawgz,
Jazza Bozza, Gilbert Gil-Umbelina, The Greyhound Blues Band,
Arthur Conerly (Sweet Soul Music) Bertus Borgus,
Hans Dulfer (Sterren van de Hemel VPRO), Captain Gumbo,
Jerry and the Shake, The Boom Boom Blues Band, Ziggy and the Bluesmen,
The Rumble Cats, Tjoen Op and several others.
Blues and Jazz have been my primary influences (John Coltrane,
Eric Dolphy and Little Jimmy Scott) with a liberal dose of Salsa
(Johnny Pacheco, Henry Fiol) thrown in. I love all types of good Music
(especially Henry Fiol, if you don’t know him, do yourself a favor
and visit his website www.henryfiol.com).
I studied European Classical Music at the Schumann Akademie in Utrecht
where I was introduced to the Music of The Masters
(Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Stravinsky etc),
and I found this to be a life-enriching experience, as well as a musical education.

Ric Stokes

Ric Stokes is jazz- en bluesmuzikant, muziekleraar en ‘gevluchte Amerikaan’. Hij kreeg politiek asiel in Nederland en heeft zijn hart verpand aan Nederland. Als hij even de grens over is, speelt heimwee naar zijn gezin een grote rol. Ric Stokes groeit op in Harlem (New York) en gaat als dienstplichtig militair naar Vietnam. Gedesillusioneerd komt hij terug en ontvlucht de geweldadige American Dream. In Nederland vindt hij zijn muzikale thuis, speelt jazz en blues, geeft les en ontdekt het fundament van zijn gezin. Communicatie, daar draait alles om, want ‘muziek is communicatie’ heeft-ie geleerd. En dat probeert hij ook in de praktijk te brengen.Aan de hand van zijn favoriete muziek vertelt Stokes over teleurstelling, liefde voor muziek en liefde voor Nederland.
